Berlin, 14 September 2026. Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius today visits the defence-tech company MKS – Missionskritische Systeme at the Resilience Technology Campus Berlin, together with Steffen Krach, chair of the Berlin SPD. The visit shows what matters to the ministry: getting new technologies into service faster.
- Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius visits the Berlin defence-tech company MKS with Berlin SPD chair Steffen Krach, a signal for the course of bringing new technologies into the Bundeswehr faster.
- MKS was founded in 2026 and develops sovereign software that brings the Bundeswehr's logistics and situational data together.
- At the end of September, MKS hosts Mission-K in Kalkar, Germany's new space and defence platform: 35 network partners, over 100 participating companies, backed by the Bundeswehr Space Command, the ministry's space operations division and the Air Force Command.
- The aim of the Mission-K conference: work on concrete challenges around space infrastructure, more resilient supply chains and satellite communication.
In Berlin, MKS develops software that brings together the Bundeswehr's logistics and deployment movements and integrates sensors, effectors and industrial systems into military command and situational awareness systems. The systems are designed to keep working when networks are disconnected or specially protected for security reasons.
Mission-K: Germany's new platform for space defence
On 29 and 30 September 2026, MKS hosts the Mission-K conference at Wunderland Kalkar. The space and defence platform brings together armed forces, industry, start-ups and research and is backed by 35 network partners and over 100 participating companies. It is supported by the Bundeswehr Space Command, the space operations division of the Federal Ministry of Defence and the Air Force Command.
At its centre are concrete challenges developed together with the Space Command:
- Protecting German space infrastructure
- Resilient materials and supply chains
- Secure satellite communication for mobile ground stations
Participants in Mission-K include Major General Michael Traut, Commander of the Bundeswehr Space Command, representatives of the Federal Ministry of Defence and companies from the German and European space and defence industry. This year's partners include ArianeGroup, Evonik and Airbus Defence and Space.
„With MKS we build sovereign military software ourselves. With Mission-K we bring together the ecosystem that can get new technologies into use faster. Germany has a strong industry, excellent research and a growing defence-tech scene. What matters is turning that into operational capabilities faster.“
Alexander Kleinschmidt, founder and managing director of MKS and initiator of Mission-K
